Starseeds Learning Garden

Grow a Starseed: Fund the Starseeds Learning Garden

Goal: $5,000

Dec. 2 – Dec. 31, 2025

Location: The VCU Mary and Frances Youth Center

About This Project

This year, Starseeds students are launching the Starseeds Learning Garden, a hands-on capstone project where they will design and build a raised garden box to be permanently installed at the VCU Mary and Frances Youth Center. Throughout the project, students apply math, science, reading, and writing in real-world, meaningful ways. They learn soil science, measurement, design thinking, and tool safety — all of which reinforce and extend Virginia’s Standards of Learning through authentic, project-based work.

Students will also write and print their own Garden Care Guides, present their completed garden to the community, and donate the food they grow to neighbors experiencing food insecurity. This project teaches students that what they do affects others— their effort becomes nourishment, support, and real community impact.

Why Your Gift Matters

Your gift ensures students have the materials, tools, and support needed to bring this project to life. It provides a powerful, hands-on learning experience that builds confidence, leadership, and academic skills—while giving back to the community. Your donation supports everything needed from first sketch to final harvest and donation.

What Your Gift Supports

Your tax-deductible donation fully funds the Starseeds Learning Garden for the January–June 2026 semester, including:

• Materials to design, build, and plant the raised garden box

• Student learning tools: journals, sketchbooks, design supplies

• Printing of student-created Garden Care Guides

• Architectural/expert guidance

• A modest honorarium for our capstone science teacher

• Installation + presentation needs at The VCU Mary and Frances Youth Center

• Support that allows students to donate fresh produce and impact their community

• Starseeds Learning Lab is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

Donations are tax-deductible as allowed by law.

Together, these funds ensure the project is fully supported—without placing the financial burden on families.
